What is a buddy list?

Will a pop-up alert me when a friend comes on or something??

um..somfin like that, its jst an indication that notifys u when ur friend/buddy appears online.
for example: If u add me, when im online it will have this like dot near mi name and i will also be in ur online group, so if u want to see whos online, click on the buddy list and it will say whos on and whos not.
