View Full Version : Ray Lamontagne
Hey i just bought Ray Lamontagne's album (the guy missy toured with) its pretty good!! mellow and sorta reminds me of a pete murray/ lior vibe!! i can see why missy would name him as an inspiration
yeh im just watching the video of him on fabchannel.com
i like his music but i dont like his voice much... it sounds like he's dying when he sings lol

I bought the album last week. Unfortunately its been a little neglected because i bought Damien Rice's - O at the same time and i love that. But yeah from what ive listened to he's a champ! Its weird listening to Burn when you've only heard Missy sing it! Haha!

Hmm Amos Lee is very good.
but my preference is Damien Rice.
Hard to compare different different music. It has its similarities... i think we have been here before. All about personal preference.

Wow this thread is really dead. In the last Sain Magazine, there's a review of Trouble and a pic of Missy, Ben and Ray.

Great pics!
well ive been listening to Hannah flat out for the last 3 months.. I totally neglected the rest of the album.
But I've listened to the album over and over and I think Jolene is the greatest song ever written! I said that here somewhere a few days.
All the wild horses is pretty awesome too.
GREAT ALBUM

i had to go to the aus itunes store to listen to previews -- it's available in usa tomorrow. but i already have "Empty" from the live from Bonnaroo album, which i love.
so far, by what i can tell, i like
"You Are the Best Thing"
"Winter Birds"
"Meg White"
by just listening to the 30 second clips, it seems really diverse: there's some really bluesy ones, some indie ones, some country twang-ish ones, and rockier ones too. actually, this may be a stretch of a comparison, but it's a bit similar to missy's latest stuff in that way, i think.
never the less, i'm excited.

So... don't hate me... but I just don't like his voice.
I have tried for months now to appreciate the graininess of his voice and pass it off to myself as heartfelt and tragic but... I can't lie to myself anymore.
So unless I listen to the previews tomorrow and am thrown aback by some change in his voice, I probably won't be getting it. He's a beautiful lyricist, no doubt, but I wish someone else was singing it.
Ok, there's my two cents. Probably not appreciated, but my truth nonetheless.

you should get missy's cover of his song "burn" from someone. i'd send it to you, but i don't know how :p
and i think shes just shortening the story to "run so fast," kinda like how she stopped telling the story of "Steer." she's probably getting tired of it, and by now, most of the fans who'd care about the story already know about the song. it is always fun to hear reasons behind her writing, though.

I actually have that cover! I love her singing it! LOVE it! But I tried listening to his version and I just couldn't get into it. Really grisly voices just don't appeal to me.
Anyway... I love her version.

ahhhh. i just got really excited.
i was watching the latest grey's anatomy episode, and in a really emotional scene, a song comes on. iit sounded kind of familiar, and then i realized that it was because it's from ray's new album "gossip in the grain"
i'm pretty sure it was "winter birds." regaurdless, that's really cool.
