First I get an appreciation thread on the Evermore web site and now here. You're making me feel like a rock star (although not quite as much as the girl who insisted I sign her breast last night at the Shihad show I was working in Coolangatta).

Shenelle if you have a pic of me you can put it up, I can barely use my phone let alone put pictures on a forum. I should warn you all it ain't pretty.

Seven, I also do george's merch generally too, so if that saves you time working out who to stalk, all the easier for you.

Thanks everyone, see you on the next tour!
Love Craig

I have some very incriminating photos that I've threatened to circulate on the internet.

Aside from that, it's what I do. Most nights of the week I'm selling t-shirts for one band or another. I first worked for Missy on a george tour that she was supporting on, and I guess both her and her management were happy with the work I did, so I got more calls to do more shows.

I can't really talk about the Tori gig without my hands shaking and wetting myself. But yes, it was all that I hoped for. I wish I had been doing the merch though, the clowns at the Opera House had the worst merch display and set up I think I've ever seen. She deserves better!

Ah, my favourite topic, chocolate. Right now I'm a very big fan of Cadbury's Three Wishes. I'm thinking of asking them for an endorsement, I've turned so many people onto it.

For all the people desperate to marry the famous Craig, couldn't you just plot together instead of fighting over him? You could like abduct him, and then take him to one of those countries where everyone has a ton of wives. One big happy family. Chocolate rox my sox. So much better than drinkable things that make you sick in the morning, eh? Can't be sick of chocolate. Chocolate makes people happy. Yum. I'm rambling about chocolate. What's the best part of your job Craig?

Ha - okay, in answer to the question about best part of my job, it's the music. I love music, and to be able to work with bands I like is the best thing in the world.

Ten things about me:
1. I am borderline obsessive about the Muppets.
2. I wear different coloured shoes.
3. I'm going to New Zealand tomorrow (excited? me? nah).
4. I am borderline obsessive about Tori Amos.
5. I once swapped a super rare Nirvana Hormoaning on red vinyl for an incredibly non-rare Frenzal Rhomb seven inch (the former's now worth around $800 I think and the latter is currently sitting at about $1.25).
6. I write the Evermore mail out which somehow also garnered me an appreciation thread on their website (and marriage proposals, although I suspect the average age group there was slightly lower than here).
7. I live in the most rock house in the world, we have had parties with bands like Frenzal Rhomb, The Hard-Ons, Regurgitator, Front End Loader, Peabody, 78 Saab etc all playing.
8. I am borderline obsessive about horror movies and dream of one day writing a movie or play that will be so scary people will be running out into the streets.
9. I am the most uncoordinated person in the world and despite having worked at a youth centre for a number of years with kids constantly trying to teach me how to ride a skateboard, I just can't do it.
10. One of my pet hates is people who misuse apostrophes. CDs does not have one!

Satisfied?

Craig, were you a fan of missys before you started being the merch guy?

Hey, sorry for the late reply, am in New Zealand with Shihad. I think it's my new favourite country.

Yes, I was a bit of a fan beforehand - I heard All For Believing on Triple J when she was unearthed and fell in love with it, then saw her do a little support for Wesley Carr at the Metro Transit Lounge in Sydney one night and, although she was scared stiff on stage and acted a bit like a high school music student playing her first show (actually, it may have been close to the truth!) her music was amazing.

I also should let you in on the fact that my Three Wishes chocolate fascination has been replaced with a strong, strong love for Whittakers chocolate. We don't have the blocks in Australia I don't think, but it is by far the best chocolate I have ever had in my life. I'm trying to work out how to bring boxes of it back with me!

Right now I'm off to explore the glaciers in the south island of New Zealand. Yes, I only said that to make you all jealous.

Choppy
11-07-2005, 02:38 PM
Oh wow New Zeland! lucky bum!

I dont see how any chocolate can compare to three wishes, but if you say so... i guess anythings possible... I will have to try some next time im over there which will be in like 10 years!

We have a few NZ-ers on this board, maybe u can make some friends with them and get them to send some over?

*hint hint NZ ppl*

All this talk of chocolate - DAMN U PEOPLE!

I remember how scared Missy was playing with the band for the first time, i felt so sorry for her, but look at her now! Amazing!

Dont rub in your fun times Craig, u make the rest of us miserable.. actually, keep going!

I like to hear about other peoples adventures and what are good places to go! then i can go there later! i think i need to start a band so that I can get flown there and do it all for free! :)

Hey hey

Yes, you should have said hi at Splendour, although even if you were trashed I would have looked like a bigger idiot most likely, I didn't get any sleep before Splendour as I was working a Shihad show in Doyalson the night before and had to drive straight to Byron after the gig and work all day. Apparently I served one of my own merch sellers and didn't even recognise them. About 3:30pm I fell asleep under a table out back and woke up to the sounds of Sarah Blasko, which was nice. I also woke up to find those incredibly funny merch people I work with had made up a little sign out of cardboard saying, "Hungry and homeless, please feed me." I even had some money lying there.

My adventures other than that are going well, I'm still on tour with Shihad, which is going really well, they're one of the nicest bands in the world. Someone started a thread about me on their forum as well, and I don't want to make you feel bad or anything but that one's up to twelve pages. Twelve pages! Although I haven't had any mariage proposals on there yet, so you guys probably win on dedication to the cause.

Um...they have. Quite a few times. It's weird. People have been bringing me presents too, someone brought me cookies in New Zealand and a girl brought me chocolate to the show last night (Whittakers, no less!). I've also been getting asked to sign things, like shirts, wallets and breasts.

I'm going to go see Serena at the Brass Monkey next Tuesday. Again, the only night I can make a show. And that's if I get back from Melbourne at a reasonable hour. Get home from Melbourne around 7pm, go see Serena, then catch a flight to WA at 8am the next morning. Go rock and roll.

God, u sound like me! Except you are alot better at time management! Went to see Serena last night at Byron Bay - Finished work and drove there as fast as I could to make it in time - got there in time - saw Renee Fields, Hawksley Workman and Serena and then came home - got home at 3:00am and had to get up early to start work at 9:00am this morning! Eeek - and im doing the same thing for the next 3 days too!

I noticed Shihad are playing at the Great Northern Shortly! :)

Make sure you let me know when you are here and have spare time! U will enjoy the show for sure (Serena's) as all the artsist are fantastic!

Hope all is well!

I'll probably miss the supports at Serena's show as I'm driving home from Melbourne that day and have some things to do in Sydney before I head down. There's every chance I won't make it at all actually, the more I think about it. Oh well, I'll give it a try.

Shenelle
07-08-2005, 07:58 PM

Wow Shenelle, you must be broke and tired. I bet Serena's gigs were bloody awesome! So Mr. Craig, what else don't we know about you? has it always been your dream to be " the merch guy"? Were you the highschool jock? Do you have a middle name? It must be a terrible job to have to tour the country with such popular bands, watch them play every night, hang out with them and sell a few t-shirts on the side. :p

Shenelle
11-08-2005, 07:41 PM
yes Craig - it must be a hard job - dont get me wrong - i reakon sometimes it would really be!

Umm - yes it cost me a bit! Most costly thing was fuel and alcohol (hahaha) Oh and the fact that I bought every cd - 2 different ones of Renny Field - Hawksley Workman and Serena - (lucky i already had one of serenas')

Im kinda glad its over tho - i was not getting much sleep and having to work every day too!
It was good fun!

Thats why i want to work in that industry so that i can combine work with something fun i like to do anyway!

1. Probably lots of stuff.
2. Not at all, I seem to fall into things. If you had told me twelve years ago I'd be working in with music I'd have laughed at you, I didn't even really start listening to music until I was around 15-16.
3. Not by any stretch of the imagination. I was the guy that got poled by the bigger guys. If you don't know what that is, you don't wanna know. I'm the classic nerd stereotype. Skinny, likes music, talks about dumb things like the Muppets, goes home early and reads.
4. Justin.
5. It's the best job in the world, even when you have to work in places like Bunbury like last night. To give you an idea, a guy got thrown out for fighting, punched in the throat by a security guard and then hit by a car, all before the first band had played. Gotta love it.

I have no new stories at 2:47am after working two shows back to back today - the all ages one finished at the same time as the over 18s one started - in a different venue. Fastest pack down and set up I've ever done. And I told someone to get fucked tonight, the tiredness was finally getting to me!

But yes, I'll be doing the whole Missy run it looks like, and I'll try not to swear at anybody. Unless you're particularly stupid, then I can't be held responsible.

I love Shihad and their crew; on the way back to the hotel we were discussing how a seagull with no legs would possibly survive and now Dave (sound guy) and Tom (drummer) are discussing their newly formed word anticipointment and how it could fit into modern societal conversation.

Yeah I used to play bass in a Sydney band called Meaneither. We were kinda funky rock stuff. I sucked at actually writing or playing anything very technical, but my area of expertise was playing anything I had to whilst in the air, or falling off the stage, or jumping into the drum kit etc etc. I don't know if Shenelle is hiding anything else, but then again, I didn't know that she knew I used to play bass, so god knows what else she has on me.

Okay, I think there may be some brown jackets left, but no green ones.

There should be a new jacket though which will rock.

There are about four or five new designs which I have seen briefly and all are awesome, best designs yet.

I don't think there are going to be badges this time, but there will be bags. And posters. And CDs I think. And some of the old merch too, like the singlets, the red Ts with the sketch of Missy, the charcoal couch Ts, and those cool designer Ts.

And probably some other stuff. Loads of stuff. We're hiring massive 10x5m tents, there's so much stuff.

Well, I've just come over from www.shihad.com/forums to say hi.

This is a pretty terrible effort. I started Craig's thread over at the Had forum, and I'm please to say we've just hit 23 pages. We've been talking about everything over there which can be related back to craig in some form... chocolate, muppets, fuzz, double ended dildos, and even a line of craig merchandise. Craig, If you're wanting a marriage proposal over at Shihad forums then just talk to Zareth. She's actually worth about a $1million and she's the head of the craig fan club. Not sure how the new missus would talk to that though...

Nice hearing from you David - Craig was telling me the other day that your craig fan club is getting huge! Our forum is just slack! mind you - we started alot later than you - i think 14 pages is not to bad! We will catch up shortly - Missy just had a tour!

Ppl can talk about me here too - cos I did a day of selling merch in Sydney - was fun :)

David: Had Squad
04-11-2005, 07:15 AM
Actually this thread started first. I was reading the earlier pages where Craig spoke of signing breasts at the Shihad show at Coolangatta. That was the first time I ever met Craig. Oh how it changed my life forever. <3 On that tour, Tom (drums) and I kept a running tally of how many pairs of breasts he was asked to sign. Naturally I offered on a few occasions. Of course Tom is a happily married man, and does not promote female's lustings towards him. I'm not 100% sure if Craig found it frustrating or amusing, but Rob (NSW leader whom came to visit QLD for the tour) and I continually bugged Craig for some free Shihad hoodies, and continually remarked at how great the wrist bands (more commonly known as stubbie coolers) were.

I think the major reason why our Craig forum has excelled is thanks largely to Rose. She's a Shihad fan and friend of Craig and without her introductions we never would have taken him in as our little "cool guidance counceller" type figure. There's also the fact that between Rob, Rose and myself, we really hyped up Craig on the forums. So when it came time for the NZ tour, everyone was coming up to the merch desk saying "Hi you're Craig, I read about you on the forums!"

Now, inconjunction with the poll on the Shihad forums:

Craig is releasing a series of women's underwear...
vote for your favourite

#1 the front says "In With The New" and the back says "Out With The Old" it will also feature the Out With The New logo of the different coloured shoes

#2 a picture of Craig and the caption says "Where's the fuzz?"

#3 "No you can't have one for free"

#2 a picture of Craig and the caption says "Where's the fuzz?"

I think I should explain... on the shihad forums, he's known as "The fuzz" because he was once refered to as "The fuzzy little guy at the merch desk" by Jon from Shihad. His fuzziness was put into question when we shaved off his sideburns, however in his defence he still has fuzz in places which most people dont see. I however was lucky enough to get a glimpse of it. He changed shirts in my presence... oh how dreamy he is.

Oh - ur gunna hate me for saying this - but I got u guys confused with the Evermore forum. Ooops!

Sounds like we have LOTS of catching up to do! Shaving off his sideburns - how did you manage to do that! Impressive!

I was actually sitting on the plane going to Perth the other week, and craig was on the same flight, I was with a friend and craig got on after us. We didnt see him come and sit down, but i did a quick scan over all the heads poking above the seats, and sure enough, it was VERY easy to spot Craig! Sitting only a couple of rows in front was a man with a very fuzzy head. - and yes - it was craig! He spent the whole flight sleeping - was alseep before we even took off - mind you - i dont blame him one little bit - probablly the most amount of sleep he got all tour.

Come on forum - we have alot of catching up to do!

Goodluck getting free stuff :) Im getting better at that - mind you, i will NEVER score a hoodie!

My guess could be the links to www.tahii.com Our lovely forum Mod is named Tahii, and you can imagine the shit we gave him when someone found that website, and it turns out to be a porn site. I think someone once made a thread about Suicide Girls. The popular adult erotica website, which portrays the beauty in women with bodyart. Or that could have been on one of the fan forums. I don't really remember.

It was nice to meet you at the Brizzy gig Craig. Thank you for being so polite even though you were exhausted.

I really enjoyed doing the merch! It was hectic - but it was still great! I dont know how Craig does it tho! I can seriously see how stressed/tired/annoyed etc he would get.

I have a new appreciation for merch sellers now, and have some standards that ive st myself.

I will NOT

1) go up to the counter and have no idea what I want
2) ask to try on every t-shirt available and then decide that I dont want anything at all
3) sit there humming and harr-ing whilst 10,000 other people are waiting to be served
4) go up to the merch stand and ask to try on an extra small shirt when clearly I should be going for a large one
5) ask what the difference in the shirts are - when clearly the only difference is the colour.
6) Will not ask if there is any other merch that is not displayed (as if we are keeping some special merch hidden from everyone)
7) buy 5 things for a friend and then come back and want a refund cos my friend doesnt want it anymore.
8) go and buy a shirt and pass it over 50 people for my friend to try. Then let someone grab it and run away, and then stand there insisting that I get a refund.
9) After being declined a refund, stand there, refusing to move and ask what im going to do now.
and last but not least...
10) I will be patient when i can see people serving merch running around as fast as they can trying to serve people - i have all the time in the world - im in no rush! :)

But even with all of that - i still loved it - was great! I wonder - is there some sort of merch selling school that i should be going to??? I want to do more! :p

I'll still do all those things... but I'll butter up Craig with Musk and Peppermint lifesavers.

When I was at Splendor In The Grass I was kinda pushing infront of people, but off to one side, and everyone was looking REALLY nastily at me, and then i yelled out to Craig and oh boy did people get mad then. I handed Craig some lifesavers and said "i'll come back and chat later" and he said i was a legend and everyone in the ques were like "Oh you're so fucking awesome man!"

The best way to push through a que is to look official and professional and act like you're in hurry to get to some big emergency. Say things like "stand aside" "comming through" and "move please you're in the way". This works even better if you carry a first aid box or something similar (a 2 gallon water cooler bottle or a bucket of something heavy always works well). If other que goers ask you whats happening, intentionally ignor them and repeat the above at a louder volume with more authority. A few friends and I have tried this in the past and it worked every time.

You probably should not attempt this if the que is being moderated by crowd controllers - you may find yourself being sent to the back or even ejected (experience teaches many things)

Thats hillarious! I had to get out of the crowd (situated at the front center against the barrier) at each gig on the last tour. Then I took photos and tried to come back in. One gig I couldnt get back in so i spent the whole of the gig watching from the side of the stage. People see you going out, but wont let you back in. So eventually I decided that I had enough of that, people pushing and shoving me, so I just used my backstage pass and showed it to the people that wouldnt move! They saw it and moved! Thank god! so I managed to get back into the crowd without too much trouble.

Either that or some chocolate! Go get some of that New Zealand Choccie - he loves that!

In Melbourne it was really hot, and I told craig i was going into the city to get something to eat - and did he want anything? He said he would love an ice cream - but it would melt by the time i got it back to him.... So I went on a mission to buy an esky or coolerbag and get him an icecream! So i bought a coolerbag and some bottles of cold water to keep it cold. I bought him an ice cream and delivered it back to him! So in the end the icecream ended up costing close to $20.00 for a magnum - lol Oh well - it was worth it :p

BUT the important thing was that he was grateful and Im sure he liked it :P

And NOW I have a cooler bag - lol

Ha Shenelle, your list is awesome. Did you have someone do a runner with a shirt? I wish I had been there, I would have chased them! But yes, you can definitely get an appreciation of what we have to deal with sometimes, it's not always as cruisey as it looks.

Dave's right, buttering me up with bribes will always work. Always. But it won't get you a free shirt, as some of the other Shihad fans worked out pretty quickly (I'm talking to you Rob).

Tip Rat is also spot on, I also find that yelling out, "Lady with a baby" works well, even if you're a guy. Or pretending you're about to vomit.

I was on the stage for Ash's performance or i was in the photo pit. I was in the photo pit for the first 3 missy songs. Other than that, i was keeping my mates company on the right side of the control thingy, and in front of the green barrier. So basically, right infront of the middle row that went to the stage. Was good!

She paid for the shirt, then passed to a friend a few people behind her, as her friend was trying it on, someone in the crowd snatched it out of her hand and ran away with it. I was just shocked that the girl that paid for it was insisting on a refund or another shirt. And then looked puzzled when I refused either. Simple sollution, go serve up the other end until she left. I felt bad for her, but it wasnt our fault.

Just hug him... he will love it! Not only does he wear two different coloured shoes (one red and one light blue) he also wears different coloured socks... and no underwear... oh wait, the underwear bit isn't true about him...I mixed him up with ......

Um yes, sometimes hugs are fine, but not if it's ten minutes until gates and my damn display partitions haven't turned up yet. If you try and hug me then I'll probably take a swing at you. Well, maybe not a swing, but I'd definitely say something my mother would be ashamed of.

And I do wear underwear, just for the record.

HAHAHAHAH! thats hillarious.

Craig - do you still have 2 pairs? Do you swap them so that one day you are waring one colour on one foot and the other day the colour?

You should say hi to craig next gig Cecilia! he is a champ! Just make sure you are nice to him and only say hi if he is not busy - he has a stressful job :)

Forgot to answer this too...
At the moment I'm wearing a red shoe and a blue shoe, and in my cupboard I have a red shoe and an orange shoe. Clearly, I need to buy another pair of shoes as red and orange are just too close. Although Fergus from Little Birdy keeps telling me he has a spare pair of blue shoes in my size, although I'm yet to see any evidence of them. Personally, I think he's all talk. I think the next ones I buy will be the Oxfam non sweat shop shoes, seeing as how Nike bought out Converse. A little more expensive, and less colours to choose from, but hopefully a seven year old didn't stitch them together.

haha. are they like the big baggy granny undies? I think the world is too aesthetically pleasing at the moment, more people should wear odd shoes and socks. Nike brought out Converse?

Id be harrassing him for the shoes! I didnt know that Oxfam made shoes - how awesome! I will have to check it out! And I didnt know that Nike bought out converse - how upsetting!

*runs off to check Oxfam catalogue that arrived in post the other day*

It's Jan 11, 12, 13 and 14. I was wondering the same thing Craig :)

Dave it is a no brainer.... 4 gigs in 4 days with a ROAD TRIP!!!!! included... down along the lovely southern coast of NSW... or one small overcrowded, overpriced, hot, sweaty gig.

Oh and I want to see you again too.... so come with Geoffers and I down South. No pressure :Þ

However Sean wants me to go to Adelaide BDO... not Gold Coast... he's offering free flights and accomodation for me in Adelaide. I know you're not so financially well off, with the whole paying off a house loan and everything... so how about you blow me for free? :Þ

I have no doubts that it'd be the best I'd ever gotten... guys are ALWAYS better at it... so I hear :o

Free stuff is good. But depends on what it is. If any of my Missy merch stuff was free, then I would prefer to pay for it. Has more meaning that way! But other general stuff is good :P

I was just thinking... "wow... this thread caught up really quickly to the shihad one..."

Shihad - 25 pages
Missy Higgins - 23 Pages

...the only other factor is that this forum has 10 posts per page... shihad has 20.

If that's so, then how come my team managed to sell out the Arena, when normally Shihad would pull 500 people to a Brisbane show? (The arena is 1200). And the proof that Shihad had a bigger fan base was that they Cog's merch figues were roughly 70% of Shihad's merch figures for the night. So in theory, there should have been about 800 people in the venue...

To be honest... we got lucky... Brisbane is such a city of "ehhhhhhhh fuck pre-sale tickets, we'll just rock up on the night if we could be bothered"

We just manage to buzz it all up *just* enough so people weren't sick of hearing about it, and so that people would think "oh man, i better get tickets or it'll sell out" Whats even better is that we managed to do it, and I've still got about half the posters Tom gave me :Þ
