Howdy y'all *waves* How are y'all doing?
I'm new on here, I was googling for Missy Higgins fansites, and i came across this one ^.^
My name is Amy, i live in dubai (if you know where that is hehe), and I'm a big fan of Missy Higgins :)
I usually listen to rock/metal music but Missy Higgins deffo caught my attention lol. She's awesomeness!

I hope u stay on this board and have loads of fun, jst like most of us. ANywayz, Im James and i was kinda in the same situation as u when it came to the listen to missy and it caught my attention thing. I used to listen to rock all the time, but missys different, which i like.

lol umm HIM are pretty much big if you're into rock and all. Missy is not :[ but there's a lot of Aussies over here, and fans of hers ^.^
Dubai is a city in UAE (somewhere in the middle east)l, shitty i know lol. But dubai is not that bad.

Hinny, what are you talking about? UAE, is not a close minded country. Everyone here listens to music. Maybe less than 5% locals are still in touch with their "culture" or whatever. It's a free country, not like Saudi Arabia. I'm local myself yet i do not dress, or act like them, and music is my life.
Plus, there are a lot of international people living here including Australians. Sorry, i had to get that off my chest. I do not like it when people judge me by being middle eastren :confused:

I should've made myself clearer. Is there like a radio station focused on alternate/indie music? Are there any good indie record stores, with a wide range of choices as opposed to just your usual chart material? I'm unaware of any international acts playing Dubai, is this the case?
I didn't mean for what I said to be racially based. I know full well (from what they say in the travel sections of the newspapers, anyway) what Dubai is like in terms of being an open society. I was just curious what the music scene/industry is like in such a setting.

Oh okay, well you should have made your question clearer. it sounded more like you were being sacrastic to me, but it's alright :)
Um about the radio, most of them are general (english fms) but they play Indie music for example for 3 to 5 pm. However, I cant really say much about radio stations, I rather listen to my cd collections.
There's a lot of music stores with a wild range of choices from Indie to Heavy Metal to Classical and Jazz (and much more!) and international acts from the world including Germany, Italy, and many others. There's also Arabic music stores, but dont ask me about it. I dont listen to Arabic music, I hate it :rolleyes: Lol.
Nope it's not based on our chart material. Thankfully, they release pretty much everything here :)

Lol, i don't really remember...Ages ago! But i got really into her when I downloaded The L Word music video of her song and I was totally blown away. I loved her voice, and went seeking for her music and all, and taddaaaa im a big fan now :D

It happened to me two years ago..whenever i buy something it's from Germany, and when i met new people at that time they turned out German or at least half German. The place constantly kept coming up...it was scary. I ended up going there for a holiday :eek: lol.

Wow! Haha, I had the exact same thing with Australia!
It just kept coming up & appearing places!
I laughed so hard the time it appeared at the bottom of my coffee cup!
Literally! Australia was on the bottom of my styrofoam cup!
Like on the inside, on the bottom, so once I had finished...There was a little outline of Australia! :D
oh ok!! cool!! its weird cos i'm a teacher and one of my lecturers was going on to me about the opportunity to teach there and then i saw it on getaway then a friends brother went there...it just was all in the space of a few days and it weirded me out! which isnt hard!!
