ok foos it's my turn :D
up now we have Sublime's self titled album. It's waiting to be downloaded.
BITS ON THE ALBUM (couldn't find a good review...)
Rolling Stone (5/13/99, p.63) - Included in Rolling Stone's "Essential Recordings of the 90's."
Rolling Stone (12/26/96, p.186) - "...bright, wired bounce and the shell-game shuffle of funk beats, snappy Jamaican rhythms and mosh-pit, shout-it-out choruses in Nowell's writing--that's the stuff of a band with great promise and the confidence to make good on it..."
Spin (9/99, p.144) - Ranked #48 in Spin Magazine's "90 Greatest Albums of the '90s."
Spin (1/97, p.58) - Ranked #8 on Spin's list of the "20 Best Albums of '96."
Spin (12/96, p.147) - "...the consistency of SUBLIME...and the home demo `Robbin' The Hood'--is a singer/songwriter's triumph. Yet what makes Sublime such a gift to bland ol' modern rock is Nowell's irreducible personality, lunging after excesses he could see through but never resist..."
Entertainment Weekly (8/16/96, p.62) - "The recent overdose death of...Brad Nowell makes this both the first and last major-label release from SoCal fusion punks Sublime. It's a respectable testament--an unusual blend of ska rhythms, dub, and hardcore guitar rock, tinged with the occasional eerie hip-hop sample..." -
Rating: B Village Voice (2/25/97) - Ranked #34 in the Village Voice's 1996 Pazz & Jop Critics' Poll.
"...A trippy, funky, fun mix of punk, ska, rap, reggae and a number of other influences....SUBLIME is a mainly lackadaisical, relaxed, summertime-feel kind of disc..."
I think this album needs at least a couple of listens before you leave a review. I didn't like it at first but it is now one of my favourite albums. There's a mix of everything. Such a shame Brad (the singer) is dead cause they would've been hella good to see live.
Anyways get listening and leave your reviews!!

ok interesting experience so far - and ive only heard two songs.
i like the music, lyrics are somewhat more interesting than the music itself
i.e.
"i got a dalmation and i can still get high. i can play the guitar like a mother fucking riot"
" life is (too short) so love the one you got cause you might get run over or you might get shot"
"why i don't cry when my dog runs away"
"who wrote my rhyme...ive got the microwave...got the vcr"
"don't fuck around with my dog"
"gettin dog shit on my hands"
i cant stop laughing. anywho, still got 15 tracks to go - so my actual review will be coming at a later date.

well!!!! i ALREADY have this album cos loz is such a champ and mailed it to me specially - cos she loves me and im such a top root.
i can remember playing my whole music folder and hearing a song and being like oh this is heaps good! and then looking at it and it was sublime. now i am playing the album in order and everything. im only up to the second song right now, but i'll post a review later.
INITIAL THOUGHTs!!!!! AFTER ONE SONG AND 40 SECONDS OF ANOTHER!!!!!
first song - really not my type of music. slow regae type non kelly listening.
second song - sounds like something on the ten things i hate about you soundtrack. more poppy and yeah im gettin into this one more.

Sublime is best when you're high. Hinny would go so far to suggest that the only time when the music sounds any good is when you are actually high.

jenno and katie should like it then :D
and meh. i had to post music that wasn't singer songwriter otherwise it would get boring. sublime is tops.

I'm not kidding. I remember a few years ago I was off my head at a mate's place and loved this stuff he put on. I grabbed the cd the next morning, and that connection was just GORRRRN.

(as previously stated: )first song - really not my type of music. slow regae type non kelly listening.
second song - sounds like something on the ten things i hate about you soundtrack. more poppy and yeah im gettin into this one more.
(the rest: )
same in the end - more rocky punky stuff yeah. sounds like something for a tony hawks soundtrack. yeah this is really enjoyable for me. i can seriously just picture doing all these flips on a skateboard and shit in the chorus and then going grinding and looking for treasure and shit when it settles down more lol. would also be a good driving song.
april 26, 1992 - also sounds like a good tony hawks one lol. only this one would be apt for doing like really big jumps with like 720 melons in a pool. yeah i can enjoy it for something im doing that could be slow and fit with it, but probably wouldnt choose to listen to it for anything other than background music.
santeria - this sounds like a mix between heartwrenching love songs i used to listen to with the punky voice i listen to now and the regaenessss that has so far been berry berry consistent - THROUGHOUT! if i listened to it heaps and learnt the lyrics i could see myself hell crankin this and singinn along all the time lol.
seed - YEAH MORE SPEEEED! oh. that was short lived lol. YEAH SPEED!!!!!!! oh. that was short lived. this song would be fun to drive with at night with a bunch of friends lol. like you have to drive the speed of the song haha. bit more punky here. yep. not too fond on the frequent change of pace except for driving purposes but i am really liking this guys voice.
jail house - yeah bit boring for me. and his voice is going semi ape like. quite strange. i really really wanna skip this song. i am reeeeally bored. perhaps if i could understand the lyrics properly. i dont know. something about it, i cant put all the words together and so all i get it this constant beat and some mumbling. scary ape voice again. FUCKING FINISH ALREADY! I HAVE A REVIEW TO WRITE! yes. good.
pawn shop - this one sounds like it should be in either ten things i hate about you or romeo and juliet. OH YEAH! THIS IS ONE OF THE SONGS I HEARD BEFORE AND WAS LIKE YEAH!!!! haha. this is one of those songs that you dont even have to listen to more than ten seconds of it, but alllll day long you sing like the 6 words or whatever that you know of it lol "DOWN THERE AT THE PAWN SHOP!" haha. seeing as i do this with "ACCIDENTALLY KELLY STREET! I NEVER KNEW LIFE COULD BE SO SWEET" and "FEVER DOOOOGG!!! SCRATCHIN AT MY BACK DOOR!!!" it is likely that this song will be stuck in my head a lot. tis slow but oh so addictive!
PADDLE OUT! - w00000t!should be in the oc soundtrack when ryan or someone is like running towards the action lol. but not a serious scene. one of those good fun scenes the oc has so often. like running from i dont know bloody transexuals or something. twas quick but thats the beauty. gotta even out those long songs. good one to follow a couple of songs that are so long. bit of a break. bit of a wake-up.
the ballad of johnny butt - 'shoot it up, it just dont matter'....hmmm. not much of a druggie or a gun toting gangsta, so cant really find a close relation to this song. but yeah if i get the urge to eat chocolate now, i'll start being like 'im gonna shoot up some chocolate' just cos this song makes me think - yeah its bad, who cares? you want it - DO IT! perios
BURRITOS! - HAHA LOVE THIS SONG FOR THE TITLE! this will be the song i play before i head off to burp burrito bar from now on har har. yeah. not really listening to the lyrics that tthoroughly, but tis quite upbeat and stuff. sound like it should be the travel music between scenes for when the oc kiddies head off to tj.
under my voodoo - bit rocky. not extremely significant for me so i wont make you read another paragraph.
get ready - (looked like red bendy) yeah. not extremely interesting. but now that its exactly four minutes in i am somehow jivin to this stuff. and im listening to the lyrics haha!!! im in the mood, get bendy! w00t hhaha. no. but close haha. thats a funny song.
caress me down - interesting title. caressing is nice but sounds like shut me down or kncock me down or something like that. makes me think of like too much of a good thing type of thing or your love paralyses me or something. should be listening to the lyrics. thats one thing i dont like about this album. you cant make out the lyrics unless you try lol. no. just about sex again. might enjoy it when im high - ie, wont ever be for me as i am not fond of the old two knife trick ;) "*uugh!*thats the lovin sound"??? ok, thats rather annoyingly GAY.
what i got - I AM CERTAIN THAT THIS IS ON TEN THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU! AHA! so thats why i thought the other ones would sound good on it lol. im freakin awesome!... ok so i just checked and its not lol.
doin time - sounds blacker than previous tracks. is chingy on this or something? lol. oh and there you go. that one is larst!
these are only my initial thoughts as this is the first time i have listened to the album thoroughly. i will post my proper review and my rating at a later date FOOS!
-----------
ps. is there a specific line up for this or can i shotgun next?

ok, so my fave tune is by far under my voodoo, its like hendrix written all over it, i think its an awesome song. also, im with kez, the name burritos... holy shit thats so mad. anyway, there are more awesome tunes such as seed, but ill go into more detail later on. I think overall its an enjoyable listen, much like the reviews that loz put up... nice summer tunes, happy music.
i think its worth listening to, id give it a 6.5/10 if i would give it a rating.
