Hey all

Dunno if any of you have heard of this chick. She absolutely kicks ass. I heard her album on the plane on the way home from London and was absolutely addicted to it by the time I got back. Will be buying it the second I find it. Here's a quick bio:

“I am passionate about originality. I’m drawn to it.”

Melissa Tallon creates the kind of music that is timeless.
It is the combination of her intoxicating voice, mysterious beauty and compositions that mine the rich vein of life experience.

“Songs to me are just everything – that’s where it all starts”, says the Brisbane based artist.

“21” is the first single from Tallon’s canny debut album and it’ll entwine itself around your psyche. Melissa reflects that “21” is about grief and sudden change. You know, when you wake up one morning and everything is suddenly different…”

Tallon’s album is full of faith. It’s raw, honest and brimming with strong melodies. Its delicacy is complimented by the intrinsic and fresh production.

“Dreaming” is layered with elegant textures and chart-friendly pop sense.

“Open My Eyes” has that same sure-hit feel and “If I Had” touches a raw sensual nerve. On this track, Melissa’s playing is dirtied up with a sexy groove, “ ‘If I Had’ is all about just taking a chance, forgetting your inhibitions and seizing the moment.” And if ever you needed a reason to get out of the house “Sunday” is a song that dreams up a heaven of blue skies, full sails and jazzy grooves.

Born in Brisbane, Australia, Melissa spent her childhood in Papua New Guinea before moving back to Queensland. Playing keyboards at 7, she wrote her first song at 10, “Music has always moved me even when I was a little girl. I used to find that the most interesting tunes would move me to tears.”

At 17, Melissa was accepted into the Queensland Conservatorium of Music but a family financial crisis forced the sale of her childhood piano. “When I didn’t have it, I used to go into music stores and play for hours. I thought, wow, I have all this music to write – just give me a piano and I’ll do it.”

The new millennium heralded a bright beginning for Melissa when EMI Music Publishing’s John Anderson signed her to a worldwide deal as a singer/songwriter. “There’s a great depth and sense of life experience to Melissa’s music. Those aspects of her lyrics and songs are very appealing and have attracted the attention of true believers like Doug James who heads our US Film and Soundtrack division” he beams.

“If He’s The One”, a piano and strings ballad, has since featured in an episode of NBC network’s popular romantic comedy series, “Miss Match” [starring Alicia Silverstone].

All 14 songs were recorded at Studios 301 Sydney and Byron Bay where Melissa worked closely with producer David Nicholas (Sting, Elton John & George). “I just know how it all sounds. When I write the music I can hear where it should be…”

It’s an elaborate debut that features arranger Daniel Denholm (Silverchair, Alex Lloyd, Paul Mac) working with the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Outside the studio confines Melissa is empowered by playing live. “It gives you a sense of confidence about what you’re doing and what connects with people”.

Tallon has now been approached by Disney to write a song for the movie “Ice Princess”. “I’m very excited about that, it’s an absolute privilege.”

Her musical mentors span a wide spectrum from Beethoven, Mozart and Bach through to Bacharach, Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones. Melissa loves melody. Her music is addictive and one listen to this album is not enough.

Like a bee to honey, you’ll come back to press play again. Only then with each listen will you discover something new.
