What is it about Missy that makes you a fan?

Obviously the vast majority of you are fans or you wouldn't waste your time being here, but there must be some reason why you've chosen Missy over the many thousands of other artists.

*fantastic voice
*amazingly talented songwriter (I've always been partial to artists who write their own stuff... they sing what's truely in their heart and make it believable)
*She's the whole package... sings, writes and plays numerous instruments, and manages to blow you away with all of them
*she's absolutely gorgeous... not that I'd stand a chance or anything but it's ok to fantasize right http://missyhiggins.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif
*she's not trying to be someone she's not, many artists these days try to be what will make them popular, Missy is real... that in my eyes makes her way better than the many puppets out there

What drew me to her was the way she sung live. Before that I first saw her I hadn't really heard much of her music. So that was the main thing her voice and the way she belted her songs out on the piano. Also I love her little stories about each of her songs. I love that she's so humble about her success and fame. Her passion for her music is inspiring and the emotion that she puts into it as well.

I think they're the main reasons.

She has actual talent and isn't a product of strategic marketing and undue media attention. She also seems really honest about her passion for performing live.

She's a down-to-earth, real Australian talent and I support that.

edit: Oh yeah! I forgot to add one of the most important reason: she dresses conservatively and doesn't flaunt herself like the multitude of strumpets in today's music industry.

I agree with all of the above.

I really like the way that she is herself and hasnt changed for anyone or anything! She is just as lovely in person as she is on stage! She has that innocent look about her, yet you dont have to go to far down to see that shes not all that innocent after all.. (i dont mean that in a bad way)

She has kept her Aussie accent, where most artists change their accent to be more American.

I love her casualty (excuse the pun).. like the way she dresses!

I love her individuality and the fact that she has not turned into a snob and thinks that she is better than anyone else just because she is now famous!

And her music and talent... well its all been said above!

Ok here's my list - I pretty much agree with what everyone has said already anyways.

My top thing that I like about her is:
- Her lyrics - I just cannot get over how much I love her lyrics. I mean generally in the whole melody vs. lyrics debate I will always go for the lyrics but there's just a great simplicity in the lyrics. At this point in my life, I really connect with the lyrics and can totally understand the feelings behind them.

Anyway, also love:
- The voice - like everyone's said, really strong and passionate but still distinctly Australian

- Her love of touring - She's young and just starting out in the music business and she has such a joy and love of touring, it's really inspiring and definitely makes you want to see her as much as you can.

- Her honesty - I'm a writer myself and I know how hard it is to just be honest about your feelings, even in poetry or lyrics. Unlike some artists, you never feel like she's sacrificed the meaning of the song just to make it rhyme, you know what I mean? Like in all of her songs, there's a complete honesty, no falseness just her truth and I really, really dig that. It's definitely refreshing.

I agree with the rest of you but I also think that its great that missy took the time to develop.

What I mean is that she won unearthed in 2001 but had the maturity and the vision to say that she wasn't ready to burst onto the scene at that time.

She listened to her heart and took time to develop as a person and fulfil her dreams, such as travelling around Europe, reflecting on her life experiences to produce honest songs.

Each tell such an amazing story that I know when I listen to them I am taken away to another world of which you can feel the emotion in her voice. Its fantastic!!!!

well... where do i start.. i won't debate anything that has already been said because it is all so true!! I admire the strength and distinctiveness of missy's voice and i absolutely love the way her lyrics are so obviously reflective of her inner feelings and experiences - unlike a lot of other artists, her music genuinely expresses her emotions beyond the words themselves.

Utterly amazing and inspirational with the most beautiful melodies and piano accompaniments everytime... Overall, its clear she has the whole package, and yes, even without flaunting her image like most other female artists do! Her passion for music and performing is admirable and the aussie accent only adds to her individuality i think. well for me i didn't know anything about her apart from what i heard and saw on her official site one Saturday afternoon
so i have to say it was the voice 1st but that quality that only a rare few artists have its that x that thing that is so hard to define it usually comes with passion for what they are doing a belief in what they are singing mainly because they wrote it themselves
there are so many manufactured pop acts out there who sing perfectly in tune every note
have a fantastic range look stunning but still leaving you thinking well yeah they can sing but they didn't move me in any way shape or form
so i guess what I'm trying to say is doesn't matter if you sing the odd bum note or forget lines (not saying Missy does)for me the song doesn't have to be sung pitch perfect its the passion the soul the character the believability the honesty with which its all put together thats what grabs me

Missy never fails to succeed and yet never seems to remove her feet from being firmly planted on the ground.

Piont Napean was a great show, and I think Missy must have felt it too, she just gets better and better.

At one stage she had the crowd singing Scar and the special two louder than she was, then the next minute you could have heard a pin drop when playing Warm Whispers. You cant tell me she hasnt got the audience wrapped around her finger. :)

I'm not 100% sure... it's a real combination of things

when I first heard The Sound of White, I was going through a rough patch and the songs really spoke to me. Her lyrics are cute and quirky without being contrived. I love the accent too :)

oh and the fact that she described herself as looking like a maths teacher, but a damn sexy one at the O2 Wireless festival!

plus she's a girl who plays piano and guitar... along with a majority of the REST of my cd collection haha.
