i like his live gig, cause the band is good.

i like the alive tag he does in lines, and i enjoy the cover of heart of gold he does at shows too.

his first record i get tired from...

Yeah he is cool live.
But the CD bores me these days.
Seems like he plays about 5 chords on the whole album!

Yup. The crowd just collectively switched off, I guess. The same happened during Nick Cave's mini-set. That was the real shame, for the best Australian songwriter of the past 20 years. Wrong crowd, I guess.

An article in today's SMH about Murray, Noll and Lloyd.

http://www.smh.com.au/news/music/cut-out-the-middle-man/2005/10/20/1129401356209.html

Bernard Zuel is generally a fine writer, but it's really when he lets his mind loose and tell us what he REALLY thinks that he's at his best. Here he just says these three are unoffensive, safe, and middle-of-the-road. He's right, of course. Just don't really understand why the piece was written. Reading it, it's clear he's thinking of one word- BORING- which he did not use in the article. Which begs the question, why write it?

Spose the SMH editors made him write it to balance out another article (http://www.smh.com.au/news/music/dark-side-of-decoder-ring/2005/10/20/1129401356163.html) about the much more sonically interesting Decoder Ring, with a subject that appeals to a wider audience.

Pete played at Day on the Green (spleen) last night!
He was pretty good - afterall it is Mudgee and we never ever get anyone worthwhile playing here!
He played for a bit over 2 hours - so i was told!
To be quite honest, i wasnt really, lets say, focussing on his music last night - but the atmosphere he created was awesome!
He played 3 enchores which was pretty good. He just kept on going....
Mia Dyson so pretty mad - but no one here has been 'exposed' to her music as such!
Overall was an ace night :)
Cheers

seen pete murray at the great western in rockhampton last night.
his band were fucking fantastic. they really bring A LOT to his songs, i was quite suprised to be honest.
i'm not the hugest fan, but i really enjoyed it.

can't remember the setlist. but it was a pretty long... seemed around 2 hours-ish.
played a few new songs, played all the hits that everyone knows, had the whole crowd singin & dancin' in good spirit. it was soooo fucking packed! i got there near the start of ben lee's set & went straight to the bar... didn't get a drink until the END of ben's set. it was bloody rediculous!

but yeah pete's band were reallly fucking tight. he sure has found himself a killer line-up.
the drummer used the crash in a couple of the slower songs making them sound a bit heavier. haha, pete murray moshpit. & he brang out a djembe for one song, can't remember exactly which one, but it was great fun.

& that guitarist and bassist... woah!! they had quite a few jams/solos happening. was good to see pete let them take front for a bit.
awesome stuff :)

I love Pete Murray!!!! I bought Feeler b4 he released so beautiful so im one of the true original fans. I've listened to Feeler religiously ever since and love tracks like Feeler, Tonic and Ten Ft Tall. I saw Pete live at A Day on The Green in Clare in 2005 and was amazed by how great he sounded live. So due to this i was eagerly anticipating the release of his next album (eg running out the first day its released and buying it) See the Sun isnt as good as Feeler but I cant help but love tracks like Better Days, Class A and a personal fav Fly With You. What do u guys think?

omg omg omg i just saw pete murray live omg omg omg ! thats all thats in my head at the moment omg omg omg! why cant he be younger omg omg omg! can i marry him? omg omg omg! why is he so wonderfully got a sexy voice?! *ahhhh* :) gosh he is lovely to sit and listen too, even when you are on a weird angle.

he played older songs and new ones - funny thing was everyone was more excited about the old ones than the new ones! haahaa some people were going CRAZY to the oldies :) oh how i love live music...festival hall- look i dont think its a great venue, to be quite honest. pete deserves better...the use of stage was just focused on the mosh pit - is that normal? well i felt at times left out but boy the drummer was completely digging into our side :) and so was the pianoist! love em i do love em! :)

have to say that year 8 girls screaming I LOVE YOU PETE is just a) wrong he is WAY tooo old ...he is even old for me and im 16 so i dont say it OUT LOUD IN FRONT OF HIM! b) isn't it past their bed time? and finally c) it isn't a rock concert it isn't a 'partay' it is where you wear comfortable causal neat clothes NOT where you wear tops where the back is missing and your tits are hanging out! definetly not the place!

thats part of my rant leave a note and i will expand!

he opened with feeler *drool* he is so kind :) also grabbed a t-shirt and poster - i just couldn't resist spending my baby sitting money! :P

Hey I've always wondered... why isn't Pete Murray ever nominated at the ARIA's??? He has quite a large presence in the Australian music scene and much less-sucessful artists than him have been nominated heaps...

Is he just disliked by the ARIA people, or is there a specific reason for his lack of nominations, even mentions????

I'm reviving this thread so as not to clutter the boards with another one.
I've just downloaded his third album and I really like it.
I loved Feeler but will admit I only really liked a few tracks on See the Sun.
But I feel he's revived my faith in his music with Summer at Eureka.
I'm even going to see him when I'm over in Australia in August :)
Anyone else have any views on the new album?

Anyone gone to or going to the Eureka tour.
I went in Newcastle when I was in Aus.
It was an excellent setlist - a mix of all my favourites from all three albums.
I also loved the stage set up with the bookcase the same as the album cover.
I recommend to you all that if you're a fan you should go along to a gig :)

pete is AWESOME! what was his support act like? wasn't it that girl Gin?

The support act was ok imo.
Yep, Gin Wigmore.
She had a good voice but just wasn't to my preference.
She sounded like a cross between Duffy and Amy Winehouse.

But I think most of the crowd really enjoyed her.
She seemed like a nice person through her chatting between songs.

However the standout performance of the night was Pete's keyboardist for his comedic style - he read out a book from the bookshelf and throughout the night just kept declaring his love for Pete..

Gin is crazy and awesome, yeh was a big night for her too... the crowd went a bit nuts for her! awesome to see a support get so much... well support. She's not doing the Sydney shows though unfortunately. the guys from the band are all awesome too. I had drinks with them all after the gig and they were all very nice ppl.

I saw pete not that long ago! he sounded awsome but i was annoyed that he didnt really speak to the audience and get involved with us..hes probably shy or something but i love it when acts get involved with the audience like talk about how the tours going or what their songs are about..like missy does, yeah so that dissapointed me but he was still great! i love his guitar so much and ben mccarthys a champ!
