‘You will be left with reminiscent echoes of his hauntingly captivating vocals long after the curtain comes down.’
With songs that open up the inner workings of every human beings heart & mind, young Australian singer-songwriter Lawrence Greenwood paints a beautiful picture with his lyrics and melodies, creating a live performance that will capture an entire audience. His voice moves in an unconventional manner leaping from the softest caress to the most pain filled wail. His beatific three-and-a-half octave vocal range sings tales of lost love, redemption and hope. It’s the rare and special sort of gig that when it’s over you realise you haven’t moved and your grip loosens. In short…you can’t help but get the feeling that you are witnessing something very, very special.
His musical involvement began at just four years old with piano lessons as a child. However, at age 12 Lawrence’s father decided to buy his son his first guitar. It was a dusty, beat up, poor quality ‘legend’ brand acoustic guitar. Despite it’s high action, poor intonation and wine stains, Lawrence would spend hours strumming along to artists like Joni Mitchell, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Pennywise, Tim Buckley, Frank Zappa and Jeff Buckley.
Recently, Lawrence recorded an EP with a band in a Melbourne studio to have some sort of demo recording to pass around to friends. Due to the strength of the recording, Australian independent record company Treehouse Records picked it up for release as his debut release The Circles EP. (Available through Shock Records)
Since embarking on his professional musical journey recently he has opened for the 2004 Folk Rhythm and Life Festival in Victoria and supported chart topping act Pete Murray. This year he has also supported Rob Sawyer on his New Zealand tour and also shared the stage and/or bill with numerous notable artists such as Carus and the True Believers, blues legend Chris Wilson, screaming jets guitarist Jimi Hocking, solo artist and JJJ host Ash Grunwald and Lloyd Spiegel.
During the recording of the EP Lawrence was accompanied by Violinist John Bedgegood known for his work with Bernard Fanning (Powderfinger), Things of Stone And Wood and many other top Australian artists. Also lap steel and additional guitars was played by International Young Guitarist of the year, Rob Sawyer. Festival/Mushroom records picked the first track from The Circles EP to appear on a compilation cd alongside artists such as Ben Harper, Jeff Buckley Jack Johnson, Missy Higgins and the Finn brothers to name just a few.
The door is now open, the rest is up to you.
